Kings Coronation!

The coronation of King Charles III is on Saturady 6th May at 11am at Westminster Abbey. This will bring back memories for many older people of Queen Elizabeth II coronation in June 1953, also at Westminster Abbey.

For many this will be the first time they have witnessed such an event, and although times have changed significantly from the Queen’s coronation, I’m sure people will enter into the spirit of the occasion hosting street parties and family get togethers.

Its a time to reminisce about the memories the service will evoke and also to build new memories. I will certainly be talking about the coronation with my clients.

Happy New Year

Just to wish all my clients both past and present a Happy New Year.

It seems to have been a festive period plagued by illness and accidents. I hope my clients affected recover quickly, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Let 2023 be a year of good health, so we can enjoy getting out and about and exploring both existing and new places together.

Alzheimer’s Breakthrough

Scientists have developed a drug that will slow the progress of early Alzheimer’s – it is called Lecanemab. It works to attacks the sticky gunge – called beta amyloid – that builds up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s.

Although this is only effective in the early stages of the dementia, it is stated that it will help a quarter of people affected by the disease to retain their independence for longer.

Any progress in managing dementia is significant, and this is definitely something to follow in the months ahead.

Queen Elizabeth II

It is so sad to hear of our Queen’s death yesterday. For so many of us there are many memories as we watched her carry out her royal duties with both style and grace. She has been our rock as a nation for most people’s entire lives, mine included.

Many of the older generation of course remember her early years when she served in the war training as a mechanic and driving military vehicles along side her peers. I am sure many of us will shed a tear as we watch the news articles going back through her busy life. It was lovely that her and Prince Philip shared many happy years together.

Let us all take something from her life of serving her people, even if it is only to care about the people around us and to support them in their needs.

Dementia Carers

I have and do work with people looking after a partner or relative who has dementia. I therefore, understand the pressure and stress associated with caring for someone every day and night. Dementia presents with a range of symptoms and behaviours from mild to severe.

I am glad to be able to give carers a break by spending one to one time with their partner or relative. This allows them to do something for themselves unhindered, knowing their relative is in safe hands. I build a relationship with both parties, and like to find out what interests may be appropriate to try and inspire the person being cared for.

Above all it is about building trust with the person being cared for, and their carer.
