Scientists have developed a drug that will slow the progress of early Alzheimer’s – it is called Lecanemab. It works to attacks the sticky gunge – called beta amyloid – that builds up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s.
Although this is only effective in the early stages of the dementia, it is stated that it will help a quarter of people affected by the disease to retain their independence for longer.
Any progress in managing dementia is significant, and this is definitely something to follow in the months ahead.
