We now have confirmation that families can meet between the 23rd and 27th of December over Christmas, which is good news to us all. There are a maximum of 3 households that can mix, but they must stay in that Christmas bubble. Families are not allowed to mix in pubs, hotels, retail or restaurants. Hugging is allowed if people feel safe in doing that.
Residents under 65 in care homes can mix with one family unit. This is an improvement in the approach to care home contact, but will be limiting as many residents will be over that age group.
With the new vaccines on the horizon, we can start to believe that life may at some point in 2021 return to a normal that we recognise. Only time will tell.

I originally trained as a SEN(M), and worked in that sector caring for the elderly for around 9 years. After this I changed pathways and moved to administration work, being employed in both the NHS and private sectors at various stages of my career. Between 2002 to June 2017 I worked in a Fertility Clinic as Clinic Director, and then Quality lead providing a patient centered service. This was a key element of my job, and I enjoyed listening to patients and improving standards of service through patient feedback and audit.
It was through doing voluntary work though that I realized I wanted to work alongside people more directly again and offer them support in the community by forming a companionship service. I set this up in 2017 and have now established a befriending and support service for people at home that need help to remain independent.
