The BBC has reported that the government is looking to set up funding elderly care in a similar way to how the state pension is managed currently. This will be by introducing additional national insurance contributions for the over 50’s, amounting to an extra £300 annually to create a fairer social system, which is currently under huge pressure to cope with the demands of our aging population. At the moment social care is not funded the same from one area to another making it a postcode lottery. People will be able to supplement payments to get a more expensive level of support. Details of the plans will be released in due course. One to follow I think!
Elderly Care of the Future?
Published by Treasured Time
I originally trained as a SEN(M), and worked in that sector caring for the elderly for around 9 years. After this I changed pathways and moved to administration work, being employed in both the NHS and private sectors at various stages of my career. Between 2002 to June 2017 I worked in a Fertility Clinic as Clinic Director, and then Quality lead providing a patient centered service. This was a key element of my job, and I enjoyed listening to patients and improving standards of service through patient feedback and audit. It was through doing voluntary work though that I realized I wanted to work alongside people more directly again and offer them support in the community by forming a companionship service. I set this up in 2017 and have now established a befriending and support service for people at home that need help to remain independent. View all posts by Treasured Time
